Hi,
I’m flying back from São Paulo with full-blown FOMO and one hope: to land straight into summer. And Berlin isn’t letting me down. Two legends play this week: Kim Deal and Iggy Pop.
Saturday is the summer solstice - the longest day of the year - and the city turns into a stage for Fête de la Musique, with hundreds of free concerts. On the party front, there’s a lot to love: Nicola Cruz brings his rolling rhythms to Säule. Mala Junta unlocks the summer with a full-force rave at ÆDEN. And Your Love returns with the unstoppable Omoloko.
In the art world, I wouldn’t miss the dreamlike paintings of Maria Wirth or the powerful archive work of Ken Aïcha Sy.
Also worth catching: two final showings at Performing Exiles Festival – “Destination: Origin and Goodbye, Lindita” – plus the last chance to see “Drama” by Constanza Macras at Volksbühne.
We’re going IRL. On July 17, The Next Day Berlin joins forces with 20% Berlin for a summer gathering at Berliner Berg. Join us, we’d really love to meet you!

Can Berlin still be a city of refuge for artists in exile? Amid rising polarization, “Performing Exiles” returns with bold new works by Mohammad Rasoulof, Tamara Trunova, Mario Banushi, and Lina Majdalanie & Rabih Mroué — alongside “100° Diaspora,” a three-day stage marathon of 45 performances by Berlin-based diasporic artists.
We highlight two works at Performing Exiles Festival this weekend:

World Premiere: Thu-Fri, 19-20.06, 7 pm; Saturday 21.06, 6 pm & 9 pm. Farsi with EN surtitles. Haus der Berliner Festspiele, Schaperstrasse 24, 10719 Berlin Tickets: €25.
