Hi! ◡̈
Another holiday with promising weather, and a bustling lineup of parties, concerts, and special events. Our highlight for this weekend is our debut event at Estelle on Sunday with the Pondji's irresistible "pão de queijo" (cheese bread/cheese ball), caipirinhas, and a selection of natural wines from Sips.
But, while our big day hasn't arrived yet, we'll dance with Moderna at her Album Release Party on Thursday and with Honey Dijon at Panorama Bar on Friday. We're curious about Creamcake's new project "Is it Cold in the Water" at Liquidrom.
For concert fans, choosing between XJazz’s incredible lineup can be a bit tricky, but we’ve made a special selection of where to go. Alongside the festival, we recommend The Staves concert and the Bakefest.
This month presents a rare opportunity for opera lovers to experience the complete cycle of Richard Wagner's "The Ring of the Nibelung" at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. This week, you can catch "The Rhinegold" and "The Valkyries."
The exhibition "Radical Playgrounds" offers a unique perspective on play. It has transformed the Gropius Bau parking lot into a temporary, itinerant funfair, and immersive experience.
Stay in the loop with Berlin's latest news in English through 20 Percent Berlin. Get a sneak peek of our weekend guide every Tuesday.
Hope to see you at Estelle for a nice afternoon.

Das Leben ein Traum (Life is a dream)
Friday 10.05 7:30 pm. Directed by Clemens Maria Schönborn. In German with English surtitles. Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, 10178 Berlin. Ticket: 12€-40€.
Based on Pedro Calderón de la Barca “Life is a dream”. Our civilization is on the brink of vital exhaustion. In 17th-century Spain, when the hunger for life was huge, official culture focused on the denial of desires and carnal lust. They kept reminding folks that Earthly presence had only imperfect pleasures to offer, and God was the sole true source of happiness. This discourse is no longer acceptable today.

Saturday 11.05. 7:30 pm. Directed by Jette Steckel. In German with English surtitles. Ticket: 15€-56€.
Can the changes brought by the Modern Age be ignored? In Jette Steckel’s precise and witty production of Anton Chekhov’s “Die Vaterlosen (Fatherless)”, a society dances on the grave of its former glamour. It’s one of the ten selected productions of TheaterTreffen 2024.
The Ring of the Nibelung – The Rhinegold

Richard Wagner considered RHEINGOLD a "pre-evening" to his stage play DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN, a label that certainly deliberately refers to the prologues of the Baroque operas. At the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Norwegian director Stefan Herheim is translating the mindset of Wagner's tetralogy into the 21st century.
The Ring of the Nibelung – The Valkyrie
Sunday 12.05, 4 pm. In German with German and English surtitles. 5 hrs 30 mins / 2 intervals Deutsche Oper Berlin Bismarckstrasse 35, 10627 Berlin-Charlottenburg Ticket: 60 € - 240€.
In THE VALKYRIE Wagner makes it plain whose side he is on: in the big love scene between Siegmund and Sieglinde, in which the elemental force of love outpunches all social mores, and in the evolution of Brünnhilde’s character, whose conduct is at first motivated by intuitive sympathy but morphs into deliberate action as a protest against inhumanity and injustice.
Radical Playgrounds: From Competition to Collaboration

Public space is also a relation between strangers. A place that not only unites but also reveals what divides us. City playgrounds are particularly significant public realms because it is here that the tension between rules and freedom, the familiar and the unknown, borders and transgression, the present and the future, risk and security are constantly negotiated. Group show with Edgar Calel, Alice Chauchat, Céline Condorelli, Massimo Furlan, Florentina Holzinger, Ingela Ihrman, Tomás Saraceno, and others.
