It's tough to pick highlights for this weekend, but we recommend the Sonic Pluriverse Festival opening at HKW, which presents an awesome program this year. Kim Gordon's concert is also at the top of our list.
The Danube Festival promises a great long weekend on the dance floor at Anomalie. We're also heading to the KW/DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM after-party at Marmobar after KW's summer program opening, featuring Luiz Roque, Pia Arke, Jimmy DeSana, and Paul P. If you like Brazilian funk, don't miss the Bailee at Festsaal Kreuzberg.
This Thursday, Nadya Tolokonnikova (Pussy Riot) performs "Rage" at Neue Nationalgalerie, which should be a weekend highlight. Susanne Kennedy and Markus Selg's piece, The Work, is back at Volksbühne for three shows.

Sonic Pluriverse Festival

Terapia, rooted in the Colombian Caribbean, laid the groundwork for Champeta. Emerging in the 1980s, it blends African and Caribbean rhythms. The Sonic Pluriverse Festival: Terapia spans four weekends with live music, performances, and sound installations, offering experiences influenced by diverse rituals and traditions. Don’t miss the Ilê Aiyê concert on Sunday.

Reethaus presents this wordless meditation on environmental impact as a 360-degree sound system.

Christian Spuck's 2023 Berlin production, originally from Zurich, portrays emotions like fear and grief, using powerful imagery to examine life and death. The Staatsballett Berlin, Rundfunkchor Berlin, and renowned soloists bring this masterpiece to life.

Princess Turandot refuses to marry, setting three riddles for suitors to solve. One wrong answer means death. Many fail until one man succeeds. Giacomo Puccini’s last opera, "Turandot," was unfinished at his death. Franco Alfano completed it, leading to its 1926 premiere. The opera, with East Asian musical elements, showcases a unique sound and surreal visuals by director Philipp Stölzl.

Nadya Tolokonnikova, founder of the feminist collective Pussy Riot, is bringing "Rage" to Neue Nationalgalerie. The performance is dedicated to all who lost their freedom and lives fighting against dictatorship. Love is stronger than death. It will be presented in front of the museum this Thursday. “Good Luck” A solo exhibition by Ju Schnee

Schnee explores games through traditional painting, sculpture, and augmented reality. Key works include 54 wooden panels forming a unique deck of cards and an interactive AR experience. Highlights feature a 180x180 cm canvas reinterpreting "Snakes and Ladders," reflecting life's ups and downs.

"Estufa," a mid-career survey by Luiz Roque, blending cinema, art, and socio-political critique. "Arctic Hysteria" by Pia Arke reveals the colonial ties between Greenland and Denmark through evocative visuals. "Ruins of Rooms" pairs Jimmy DeSana’s queer photographic legacy with Paul P.’s contemplative portraits and sculptures. KW is opening three simultaneous solo exhibitions. Besides the opening, KW is hosting guided tours this Sunday (EN) and on the upcoming weekend, always starting at 4 pm - with registration done on-site.

In the slums of Rio, the paths of two kids diverge as one struggles to become a photographer and the other a kingpin. This Brazilian film was nominated for four Oscars in 2003 and is now being shown again in several Yorck Kino cinemas.
