Hi,
One of the criteria for this guide has always been to include cultural events with women representation. It seemed like a simple task, but I've realized it's more challenging than I thought. Many parties and venues I enjoy seem to book a single women artist just for token inclusion. I don't have the statistics, but based on my observations, FLINTA* artists make up merely 30% of Berlin's music scene—if that.
I strive to favor inclusive events but I don’t always succeed. Sometimes, I give in and see a male artist I like at a venue that rarely books women performers.
For this International Women's Day—which remains a fight, not a celebration—I've included only events featuring at least one woman artist. I’m pleased that on March 8, many parties and clubs are dedicating their spaces to us, women—we're taking over the lineups. However, this should be the norm, not the exception.
I invite you to check out the sets and albums from the women artists in the guide.
Have a nice weekend.
Lalai
